Top Town starts this Sunday

Get the popcorn ready and make yourself comfortable in front of the TV this Sunday night to catch the first episode of Top Town and see our Unison Taupo Lakers Team in action.

The first of eight episodes kicks off this Sunday at 7.30pm on TV2 where 15 teams from towns around New Zealand battle it out to be named the Top Town in the country. Trials late last year saw 12 local athletes selected to be on the Taupo Lakers team. Two weeks later they were whisked away to Christchurch to compete in a variety of physical challenges.

Councillor Mich’eal Downard, coach of the Unison Taupo Lakers said the team came together really well and gave it their all. “Everyone gave it 150%, members gelled as a team and performed under pressure. The Unison Taupo Lakers had a great time in Christchurch and we are all looking forward to seeing how the show turns out,” he said.

Mayor Rick Cooper says the team did exceptionally well but the results are embargoed. “All I can say is the Unison Taupo Lakers did Taupo proud – they had energy to burn,” said the Mayor.

Naming sponsors of the Taupo Lakers, Unison are also looking forward to seeing how the team goes. Customer Relations Manager, Danny Gough said “Top Town is a great community event and we jumped at the chance to support Taupo’s team and to get involved with this iconic New Zealand competition. We can’t wait to see how the team gets on.”
