BLENHEIM

The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew a seriously injured
truck driver to Wellington Hospital early this morning.

The helicopter, with two Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics onboard,
responded to St Hwy 1 at Kekerengu, south of Blenheim, just before 5am.

When the helicopter arrived police, fire and ambulance were on the scene as
well as a local doctor.

As we understand it the 37 year old Blenheim man was driving a truck which
hit an embankment, ejecting the man from the truck.

The doctor and ambulance officers were treating the man in the back of an
ambulance when the helicopter arrived at the scene. He was transferred into
the helicopter and flown to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department
under the care of the WFA paramedics.

The man is currently being treated as assessed in hospital. He is suffering
from head injuries and reported to be in a very serious condition.
