Low cloud and steady rain have prevented competitors in the Rayglass New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Championship from racing on the Gulf Harbour course on Saturday 14 February.

New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Association spokesperson Greg Brinck says that safety is the first consideration of the series’ organisers. “As our support helicopter is unable to fly in these weather conditions, we have made the sensible decision to cancel the scheduled 100-mile and 60-mile races at Gulf Harbour today.”

With only two weeks until the next round at Maraetei Beach, south-east of Auckland, Brinck says Auckland powerboat fans will soon have another opportunity to see these spectacular craft racing.

“Round three of the Rayglass New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Championship is scheduled to take place at 12:00pm on Saturday 28 February. Our competitors will be set up at Maraetai Park on Maraetai Drive and we welcome all spectators to join us at the park to enjoy this free spectacle.”
