Waitakere United has won back to back NZFC Minor Premierships with a 1-0 victory over Hawkes Bay at Park Island today.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 88th minute by Fijian international Roy Krishna.

The three points leaves Waitakere 8 points clear with two rounds to play for most of the chasing pack (some have just the one game left to play), who must all now look to console themselves with a place in the top four and a shot at the Grand Final.

Waitakere Head Coach Chris Milicich is pleased with the result, but warns that nothing has yet been won.

“This is great for the club and for the players and coaches, to wrap up the Minor Premiership so early allows us to put that aside and concentrate on winning through the play offs and of course winning the O-League as well.

“Auckland City showed they are finding form with their big win yesterday and we still have to go to Vanuatu before playing Auckland at Douglas Field.

“But today was about the NZFC and ticking one of the boxes this year so in that respect the points are welcome. But this will be a mild celebration if that, with play offs to concentrate on and uncertainty over the number of O-League spots for next year we cannot sit back and assume anything.”
