Open Water Swimmers chase selection to the Worlds
New Zealand’s leading open water swimmers will be taking on Australia’s best this weekend in their bid for selection to the world championships.
Five New Zealand swimmers will contest the Australian Open Water Championships in Penrith near Sydney.
The leading candidate is Rotorua’s Kane Radford (Aquatx Rotorua), who has returned from his base under scholarship in the USA, and will be joined by Auckland’s Phillip Ryan (Waterhole Swimming Club), Wellington’s Kirsten Cameron (Ace Swim Club), North Shore’s Alannah Jury and Wellington’s Casey Glover (SwimZone Racing)
A top four finish will ensure automatic selection to the world championships for the New Zealanders although there are other selection options for the kiwi squad.
They will contest the 10km swim tomorrow which is also the world championship selection race for Australia.
