Welcome amounts of rain have brought a green tinge to Tararua and eased the district’s water and fire restrictions.

Dannevirke and Eketahuna residents can water their gardens again and in the area west of Route 52 there is now an open fire season.

However permits are still required for the district’s coastal belt east of Route 52 which was previously a prohibited area but is now restricted.

Ultra dry conditions have gripped parts of Tararua for the third consecutive summer posing challenges for residents to conserve water and the council to stay within its resource consent limits.

Utilities manager Dave Watson said he was grateful for the co-operation he had received and “wished to thank everyone.”
