Could it get any sweeter for V8 ute driver Caine Lobb than having a perfect weekend with pole position and four wins when the ENZED V8 Ute Series competed at the Powerbuilt International Raceway in Ruapuna.

Claiming pole position this Saturday Lobb was off to a grand start to the weekend of racing where he hoped to improve on his position of third in the series.

Lobb has some history with the circuit at Ruapuna where he was employed as an assistant instructor by the Canterbury Motor Racing School based at the circuit before joining the Mark Cromie Holden Racing Team last year.

Spending over a year with the school Lobb has picked up some technical insight to the ways of the Ruapuna track from chief instructor Andy Neal as well as his own experience competing there in the past in Formula Ford and in a Holden Super Six Commodore.

"It's a funny sort of track, if you try hard you go slow - it's better to be real smooth and patient" said Lobb.

Pole position all done and dusted Lobb was on the front row for the first of the round's four races all held on the Sunday.

With current champion Matt Lockwood busy in battle with Simon Beirne, Lobb was able to pull away in the six lap race and cross the line with a sizeable lead.

A marble draw determined the grid positions for race two and Lobb was to start from seventh place.

Moving up into third and amongst the battle for the lead Lobb managed to make his way to first place once again ahead of Mack Peach followed by Lockwood.

Completing the race in that order Peach was given a time penalty for jumping the start relegating him to fifth place and promoting Lockwood to second and Mike "The Loan Ranger" Pero into third.

Race three was a reverse-marble-draw start which meant for Lobb a sixth place start inside the field of 12.

He was in third place after the first corner and in the lead by the end of the lap with Lockwood being held up in a tussle with Craig Paterson over second place.

Lobb was once again on his own and able to pull a good sized gap to take another win.

Back in pole position for the start of the final race of the weekend Lobb simply pulled away and took the win from Peach in second and Lockwood in third claiming a resounding victory for round four at Ruapuna.

The return of Nigel Bunny from Motorsport Solutions to the Mark Cromie Holden Racing Team at the weekend paid dividends with his skill and experience lending itself to a great car set`up over the weekend.

"The car was a breeze to drive - quick and smooth and in every race I just pulled a gap on everyone - it was the best the car has been all year." said Lobb.

"We hauled quite a few points out of Matt's lead this weekend so we will have to see what we can do about it this weekend coming and the one after." he said.

This weekend the ENZED V8 Ute Series heads down the line to Timaru International Motor Raceway for round five.

Lobb cut his teeth in the Holden racing ute on this circuit last season where he first drove the car setting the fastest time on the circuit in wet conditions.

Lobb took a second and third place in races two and three at Timaru last season showing he was indeed a strong contender early on.

He hopes to be quick again at Timaru with his sights on Matt Lockwood and attempting to take the series lead from him.

After Timaru the field simply heads south again for round six at Invercargill's Teretonga Park the very next weekend.
