If you have an interest in how waste is managed in Franklin, have your say on the proposed Waste Bylaw.
Franklin District Council is currently calling for submissions on the bylaw, which would

manage all aspects of waste, including enforcing rules, provisions for waste collection and disposal, managing potential risks to public health and promoting waste minimisation throughout the District.

Franklin District Council GM Strategic, Cathy Kenkel says the proposed Waste Bylaw has been developed in response to the provisions of the Waste Minimisation Act 2008, the Local Government Act 2002 and to promote Council’s waste minimisation and waste reduction objectives.

“The proposed Waste Bylaw covers the entire spectrum of waste management, from household refuse, to waste contractors and waste minimisation. Interesting aspects also include provisions for dealing with shopping trolleys left on public land, to controls on unaddressed unsolicited mail into letterboxes.”

A Statement of Proposal that includes the proposed bylaw and a submission form can be obtained from public libraries and Council service centres or online at www.franklin.govt.nz.

The submission period closes at 5.00 pm on Tuesday 31 March 2009.
