Tararua North Ward ratepayers can expect voting papers this week in preparation for the upcoming by-election.
Nine candidates are contesting the seat indicating a keen interest in the vacancy created by former councillor Judy Swenson’s resignation.

They are Judy Babe, Wendy Baker, Brenda Dodunski, Roly Ellis, Lyle Haste, James Kendrick, Claudia Nicholson, Stephen Paewai and Hal Schmidt.

Voting papers should be returned by post to electoral officer Mike Brown no later than midday on Tuesday April 7.

Anyone wishing to apply to enrol as either a residential or a ratepayer elector may do so up to April 6, Mr Brown said.

For those who do not receive their voting papers or whose papers are faulty, special votes will be available at the Dannevirke service centre from Monday March 23.
Mayor Maureen Reynolds has welcomed the numbers saying that the interest in becoming a councillor in the Tararua district was encouraging.
