AUCKLAND

Philharmonia Hall will be abuzz with young talent this week with the National Schools Orchestra in session. The country's top young players have all been selected to take part in the NSO. This week sees them working with conductor Owen Clarke and developing their orchestral skills with the guidance of APO musicians.

The week culminates in the NSO Finale concert in the Auckland Town Hall THE EDGE® on Friday 13 July at 7.30pm. To book click HERE.

The programme for this year's concert is: David Hamilton's Zarya; Haydn's Trumpet Concerto (featuring soloist Barrett Hocking); John Williams' Raiders of the Lost Ark; and Dvorák's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World".

The following Monday, the six finalists in the MusicWorks National Performers' Competition will perform with the St Matthew's Chamber Orchestra in the Concert Chamber, Auckland Town Hall, THE EDGE®. To book click HERE.

This year's finalists are violinists Olivia Francis (St Peter's School, Cambridge), Kareena D'Souza (St Cuthbert's College), John Choi (King's College), Esther Kim (St Cuthbert's College), Jenny Lui (Westlake Girls' High School) and cellist Yoon Bee Jee (Epsom Girls' Grammar School).

The six finalists will be competing for a $500 cash prize as well as the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the APO in 2008. Tickets to both the NSO Finale concert and the MusicWorks National Performers' Competition Final are only $12 each (service fees apply).
