The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called today 28/3/09 at
5pm to tramper near the Kapakapanui Ridge which is East of Waikanae. The
39yr old tramper from Marton had fallen and injured her ankle and was unable
to tramp out.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter with a Wellington Free Paramedic onboard
responded to the scene. Two other Wellington Free Paramedics had walk for an
hour into the patients location and were able to guide the Helicopter to
their location via radio. As there was no place to land near the patient the
paramedic was winched down into a clearing. The patient with the help of the
paramedics were able to carry the patient down to the clearing to be winched
back into the Helicopter.

The patient was flown back to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where
she is being treated for the injured ankle.
