Australia’s Megan Jones and Kirby Park Irish Jester continued their strong form at Kihikihi today in the HSBC FEI World Cup Eventing qualifier.
The combination made light work of a cross-country track that saw the fortunes of many other riders change. They finished the day on their dressage score (38.1 penalties) with a 2-rail advantage going into the show-jumping.
Fellow countryman Shane Rose’s chances of a top 3 finish slimmed after his horse All Luck failed to sight the second element of the influential line down to the second water and incurred 20 penalties.
His misfortune allowed New Zealand’s Heelan Tompkins and Sugoi to shift into 2nd place after she completed the cross-country clear with only 0.8 time penalties.
Matthew Grayling and his 8-year-old NRM Parklane Hawk held on to 3rd position after also completing the cross-country clear with 5.6 time penalties.
The competition concludes tomorrow with the show-jumping phase.
