Sail Training Scholarships for Far North Schools

A new initiative from Far North Holdings Limited will see them sponsor a number of outward bound scholarship places for young people throughout the district to take part in the R. Tucker Thompson’s 7-day youth Sail Training voyages.

“Far North Holdings is very much involved in the maritime industry both with infrastructure and in enabling people to engage with the marine environment” commented FNHL Chairman Tony Norman. “These voyages give our youngsters the opportunity to develop leadership skills, learn basic sailing and seamanship as well as safety at sea. Not only that, these trips instil confidence, and develop communication and teamwork skills”.

“Our organisation is keen to promote education and leadership with youth in our district; we’ve decided that we will offer one scholarship place to selected secondary schools in our District.

“We’re delighted to have this support from Far North Holdings”, said Executive Trustee Jane Hindle. It recognises the important role that the R. Tucker Thompson plays in developing the potential of our youth here in Northland.

The scholarships will be awarded for Year 10 students on the voyage from 15-21 June.
