The Turangi-Tongariro Community Board want to hear the views of the community on the use of 1080 poison in the Taupo district.

Chairman Clr Don Ormsby says he and Mayor Rick Cooper see their role as advocates for the Taupo district environment and its inhabitants, "we want to have an open and frank discussion about 1080 so we can play an advocacy role on behalf of this community."

He says Turangi-Tongariro Community Board members and Taupo District Councillors are aware there are some strong views on the use of 1080 in the district and are looking for direction from the community on the debate. “We believe there are massive drops planned for the district so we need to get a strong steer from our communities now before the 1080 drops go ahead.” They encourage everyone with a view to come along and join the open forum discussion.

The TTCB meeting is on Tuesday 19 May, at 1pm in the Turangi Service Centre. Speaking rights will be available.
