The recognised stars of New Zealand junior orienteering dominated the individual races at the NZSS champs held in Christchurch on the weekend.

While Scott McDonald only pipped Jourdan Harvey by 20 seconds in the senior boys, Rachel Goodwin dominated the senior girls winning by 13 minutes. While much was made of the absence of some top performers at JWOC these performances were outstanding and produced worthy winners

In the intermediate grades there were close tussles with Duncan Morrison and Laura Robertson edging out Matthew Ogden and Jaime Goodwin. These four all possess solid orienteering technique backed by great speed. These fields will not be the last they destroy.

And in the junior grades, where you never quite know who is going to turn up it was Jack Harker outshining (just) James McCaughan while the experienced (relatively) local Selena Metherall demonstrated her consistency and took another title.

The event was held on technical Canterbury sand forest terrain and a few local elites were heard muttering about various mistakes, so it was defintely the technically sound orienteers that had the advantage.
