Mal Corboy, New Zealand’s most celebrated kitchen designer has another award to his name, again beating Australia’s best to win the Edition 1 Residential Corian® Design Award 2009.

Mal Corboy is the first non-Australian to win this prestigious award for excellence in kitchen design and with this win, now becomes the first designer in Australasia to win the award twice. The prestigious Corian® Design Award is recognised internationally and places Corboy firmly at the top of the list of innovative kitchen designers in this region, if not the world.

Mal’s winning style is all about colour and light, innovation in materials and styling, while retaining excellent use of space and work-flow in the kitchen. And this year’s winning entry, designed for a private New Zealand coastal property is no exception, using a dramatic mixture of glass, aluminium and stunning Cameo White Corian® benchtop to wow the judges. LED lighting around the edge of the benchtop allows the clients to change the atmosphere of the room by changing the colour of the lights - the same lighting also installed in the stair threads to create an integrated space between the two living areas.

Judges congratulated Mal for “pushing the boundaries of design in this unique project.”

Mal’s win last year catapulted him into international prominence, winning him a ‘significant’ order from the USA and invitations to speak at conferences around Australasia.

“Winning an award like this opens doors,” says Mal. “I’ve already received emails of congratulation from all over the world and I’m confident that this will move my career to another level,” he said.
