2009 Silva Superseries orienteering

World games orienteers Darren Ashmore (Rotorua) and Lizzie Ingham (Wellington) completed their domestic season with convincing wins in the 2009 Silva Superseries over the Queens Birthday weekend.

Two wins and a second for Ashmore, and a clean sweep for Ingham, over the weekends four races in Wharapapa South and Aramiro Forest gave them overall victory in the national pointscore series.

Ashmore, taking his first Superseries title, was pleased with his efforts.

"It was fun. It's not the same terrain that we'll get for the World Games - that will be flattish parkland - but it was a great strength and hill workout." he said about the weekends races.

"The next few weeks will see me hitting some intensive speedwork before heading overseas on July 11."

In taking out her second Silva Superseries title, Lizzie Ingham was also relaxed and thinking ahead to the World Games.

"I'll be working on my speed too, dodging the public while doing sprint sessions in the Wellington Botanic Gardens" she commented.

"It was good to win this weekend - you can't relax as there's a strong group of five or so elite and junior women, any of whom can win on their day."

"I'm looking forward to travelling to the World Games and learning from teammate Tania Larsen (nee Robinson) and her experiences." said Ingham.

The fourth World Games team-member, Ross Morrison (Hawkes Bay) is currently based in Denmark and is dominating the Danish Park tour, a national sprint orienteering series.

Morrison, New Zealand champion in 2007 and 2008, is leading the Dansk Park Tour by 3 seconds, after two of the four races, and best three to count.

The 2009 Silva Superseries was held over 14 races including the 2009 Oceania Championships and the New Zealand Championships.
