After only seven months in operation Auckland’s Sale St bar has being chosen by its hospitality peers for a prestigious Lewisham award.

Sale St which revived Auckland’s big bar concept has won the “Best Ambience and Style Emerging” Lewisham award.

Only those in the hospitality industry are eligible to vote in the awards which were established in 2003 to encourage excellence in hospitality.

Sale St won the award over a number of other venues including Auckland’s Chambers bar, Agents and Merchants and Mondial Café.

Renowned restaurateur and owner of Sale St, Luke Dallow says he’s delighted in the win.

“We went outside the square in creating Sale St bar with its huge open spaces and beautiful décor. This award shows our hard work has paid off. To me it also indicates Sale St is on its way to becoming one of the top five bars in the world,” says Dallow.

A hospitality veteran, Dallow also owns Ponsonby’s iconic Chapel bar and bistro. He says Sale St is unique in that it’s a bar that fits every occasion.

“Be it a quiet after-work drink, or a big Saturday night out, Sale St provides for all,” says Dallow.

“Not only does the ambience of our bar stand-out, but we’re also becoming known for our friendly service and music.

“We’re working hard to make sure our fantastic line-up of DJs continues, as well as extraordinary performances from live bands.

Despite the current economic down-turn Sale St continues to attract customers as well as out-of-town visitors looking for a good night in Auckland.

“People are trying to put the recession behind them. They want to leave their worries behind when they go out socialising. Sale St has all the trimmings of a great bar that doesn’t get you in the pocket,” says Luke Dallow.

The Lewisham awards are named in honour of vibrant hospitality entrepreneur Richard Lewisham who helped create the modern day drinking and dining scene in Auckland City.
