A New Zealand triathlete was killed when a car smashed into his bicycle in Bahrain yesterday.

Cameron John Clow, 31 from New Zealand, was riding his bicycle on the footpath at about 7.45am, when a Volvo driven by a Bahraini ploughed into him.

The 42-year-old driver who was allegedly speeding has been taken into custody.

Mr Clow, from New Plymouth, moved to Bahrain with his fiancee Kate and was working as a schoolteacher.
