“Mark it on your Calendar Jan 10th 2010. “

Event organiser for Taranaki’s biggest cycle race today announced it had retained New Zealand’s biggest Family Bakery as its main sponsor.

Yarrow’s Taranaki Cycle Challenge organiser, Mr Selwyn Brown, said he welcomed the continued support and commitment from Yarrow’s the Bakers.

“Yarrow’s has been a fantastic sponsor of this event for the last 4 years and share my drive to help confirm this cycle challenge as one of New Zealand’s best recreational road cycling events. The event has been running now for 8 years and has a wide spread following throughout New Zealand with over 1300 participants from outside the Taranaki province competing in the challenge each year. Yarrows spokesperson Russell Guckert said the event was a great fit for their company especially with their new range of nutritionally superior breads using Salba super grains to promote good health. This is a very good fit with our company which encourages good health through fitness and healthy eating. The Yarrow’s 2010 Taranaki Cycle Challenge, to be staged on Saturday January 30 will again be the biggest thing since sliced bread” Mr Brown said.

“The Yarrow’s team are fantastic to work with and the continued association helps us further develop cycling and this cycle event to its full potential,” he said.

Yarrow’s the Bakers spokesperson Russell Guckert said the sponsorship fits with the company’s commitment to New Zealand local communities and good health...

“As a baker committed to producing breads of superior nutritional quality, we strive to be a strong competitor in the bread market. We welcome the opportunity to support and promote an event which encourages people to compete and aspire to achieve their goals,” Mr Guckert said.

Mr Brown predicts more than 2000 participants will complete the 150 km ride in 2010. “We received encouraging feedback from these years’ participants and predict next January’s starting field to be even bigger than this year’s event,” he said.

Mr Brown said January’s event has the potential to inject more than $1 million into the local economy.

“The prize pool and giveaways will be sensational with an expected $100,000 worth of spot prizes and giveaways,” he said.

Events Taranaki has the support of over 230 volunteers to stage what is the biggest ever cycle event in Taranaki. $5.00 from every entry fee goes to the Taranaki Kids Sports Trust, “helping Taranaki Kids realise their sporting dreams. Next year our official charity “Canteen” will hopefully receive a huge injection of funding by our sponsored celebrity riders, who will again compete in the “Clash of the Codes” last year rugby narrowly pipped Rugby league across the line.
