DARGAVILLE

Construction on Dargaville’s new pool complex is moving ahead. On Friday cranes started to hoist into place the huge precast concrete panels which are to make up the walls of the changing rooms, plant and administration building.

“It’s good to see the walls start to go up. It really feels like things are moving along” says Kauri Coast Community Pool Trust Chairman Vern Stevens.

“There has been a lot of work going on below ground with the pool and its foundations, and it is nice to now see some progress with the main buildings.”

There was more action at the Selwyn Park site earlier in the week with more than 10 trucks delivering the 50 cubic metres of cement needed to finish off the foundations for the changing rooms, the administration and plant building.

“It is nice to see the foundations finished off in this area. All this progress helps bring the complex to life” says Mr Stevens.

The hydrotherapy/learner’s pool has also been a hive of activity this week as its precast concrete walls were slotted into position.

Most of the walls and foundations for the complex’s main feature, the 50 metre pool, have already been installed, and preparation of its floor is ongoing.

“Most of the complex has been pre-made by Barfoote Construction in Whangarei, then trucked to Dargaville and put into place, so there has been lot of activity going on off site as well.” says Mr Stevens

Prefabricated bleachers are currently being assembled in Whangarei, and are due to arrive at the Selwyn Park site soon. The bleachers will be stored on site before being positioned next to the pool.

“We are hoping for some good weather so work can continue to progress,” says Mr Stevens.

Dargaville’s new pool complex is still on target to open in late November.
