News and information about Lake Taupo are being zapped around the world numerous times each day.
Destination Lake Taupo is using Twitter to communicate messages about events, promotions, attractions, news, and even the weather.

“It’s a quick, fun and easy way of keeping both locals and visitors updated,” says Destination Lake Taupo’s communications advisor, Adele Forster. “And because people actively choose who they follow, we know we’re communicating with those who really want to know what’s going on in Lake Taupo.”

Twitter is being widely used by businesses to communicate with customers and potential customers to promote products and services and raise brand awareness.

“We’re hoping Twitter will help us keep Lake Taupo front of mind as a visitor destination without it being a sales pitch. Tweets are expected to be informal in style so gives us the opportunity to exude a personality which isn’t as easily achieved through traditional communication tools and conventional media,” says Forster. “We hope to tweet some giveaways too – we’re not beyond bribery!”

Twitter has become a global phenomenon since its creation in 2006 and is believed to be among the fastest growing websites in the world with almost 20 million monthly visitors.
