There are 360 000 domain names ending in .nz, one for every 11 New Zealanders. Last week's re-branding raised awareness of the newer 2nd level domain names (SLD's) in NZ such as .geek.nz, and .maori.nz by the Domain Name Commission; mentioned was the new SLD .health.nz which the Domain Name Commissioner Debbie Monahan explains in this video is a "moderated second level domain name" meaning organisations must apply and be approved for using the .health.nz domain. The NZ Domain Name Commission http://www.dnc.org.nz regulates the New Zealand domain name space including issuing the UDAI key used for seamlessly transferring your domain name to a different registrar in New Zealand, and can approve requests for new second level domain names.
