Former Blackcaps captain and last season’s Wellington Firebirds Twenty20 skipper Stephen Fleming has resigned from the Cricket Wellington Board. Fleming is stepping down from the Board due to the expanding commitments of his sports management business interests.

Fleming is working with many individuals and sports organisations as part of his sports management role, including with other New Zealand major cricket associations.

He will continue to consult with the Cricket Wellington High Performance team around a variety of elite cricket projects.

Stephen Fleming said he had enjoyed his time on the Cricket Wellington Board.

“Unfortunately with my growing business interests I found I was not available to Cricket Wellington as often as I would have desired. I am very keen however to keep contributing to Wellington’s High Performance programme.”

Chairman of the Cricket Wellington Board Ian Wells said “It has been tremendous having a person of Stephen’s experience and wisdom on the Cricket Wellington Board for the past year, and we acknowledge his desire to concentrate on his personal business interests.

“It is also positive that Stephen won’t be lost to us with his agreement to work with our High Performance team on an ongoing basis.”
