Day 3 Begins as Final 18 Compete for Prize Pool

Today marks the final day of the New Zealand Poker Tour Queenstown – SKYCITY Alpine Adventure poker tournament. Day 2 finished up at 1:30am this morning with 18 players remaining.

42 players busted out last night including TV personality, Brooke Howard-Smith and Radio Sport’s D’Arcy Waldegrave.

Australian professional player Tony Hachem outlasted the day to go through to the final day.

Day 3 will begin with 18 players competing with the blinds at $200 small blind, $400 big blind and ante set at $500 which will continue to rise every hour until 9 players remain and the final table will begin. All 18 players will walk away with a cash prize, rewarding them for a tough week’s play.

Chip leader for the tournament going into the last day is local businessman John Guthrie. Mr Guthrie holds over 27% of the overall chips with $683,500 in his stack.

Total entries for the tournament stand at 134. The total prize pool of $301,500 is up for grabs. The New Zealand Poker Tour Queenstown – SKYCITY Alpine Adventure is the largest poker tournament in the South Island this year based on number of players.

As the sun sets on Queenstown tonight, one player will take home $87,435 in prize money as well as becoming the winner of the NZPT Queenstown – SKYCITY Alpine Adventure poker tournament for 2009.
