2009 New Zealand Secondary Schools Table Tennis Championships

AUCKLAND

The 2009 New Zealand Secondary School Table Tennis Championships will take place at the Auckland table tennis stadium, 99a Gillies Avenue, Newmarket, Auckland from 31st August - 2nd September, 2009. The Championships draw together the best secondary school age table tennis athletes in New Zealand for three days of intensive competition.

 

Pre-tournament favourites in the Open teams event are St. Kentigern College (Auckland) whose team is comprised of Kevin Wu, Lingnan Kong, and Steven Li. All three team members are current New Zealand representatives who competed at the 2009 Oceania Junior Circuit event on the Gold Coast, Australia in June. Kevin Wu was a member of the New Zealand team that won the Cadet Boys team title on the Gold Coast.

 

The Open Girls' event will be hotly contested with the likely frontrunners being Auckland International College (Auckland) and Westlake Girls' High School (North Harbour). Auckland International College are represented by Angie Guo, Julia Wu, and Ally Zhai. Angie Guo and Julia Wu are current New Zealand representatives. Westlake Girls' High School is represented by Amanda Yeung, Catherine Yeung, and Michelle Zhao. Amanda Yeung and Catherine Yeung are current New Zealand representatives.

 

There are 34 three-person teams competing in the Open event and 4 teams competing in the Open Girls' event. 21 schools will be represented at the Championships.

 

The teams event takes place from 31st August - 1st September, 2009. Individual events will be held on 2nd September, 2009.

 

There is free entry for spectators.
