TAUPO

Award winning author, reviewer, story-teller and history maker of national and international recognition, Kate De Goldi will be at the Taupo Library from 12.30 – 1.30pm on Wednesday 2 September.

This free event is a unique opportunity for all readers, parents, teachers, and budding writers to hear and meet a delightful personality. On the same day Kate will be at Price’s Bookshop from 11 – 11.30am for coffee and cake and you are warmly invited to both these events.

Next magazine describes Kate as “a woman with a mind so sharp it could draw blood”. Writing across the genres – short stories, picture books, teenage fiction, she is an award winner who bridges the gaps. Her publishing history began under the pseudonym Kate Flannery. Storytelling is a family tradition, and her writing was nurtured by her education and “great English teachers”. The first of many major recognitions was the American Express Short Story Award. She chats and reviews with Kim Hill most Saturday mornings on Radio NZ.

Her latest success, “The 10pm Question” a tale of families, friendship and love, neatly crosses the boundaries between teen and adult fiction, an important first in fiction genres. As well as winning the NZ Post Childrens’ Book Awards Senior Fiction Award in 2009, this moving novel of family dynamics was joint runner up in the Montana Fiction Awards 2009, was voted the Readers’ Choice in the same Awards and is destined to become an enduring New Zealand classic.

Kate’s visit to Taupo Library is sponsored by the NZ Book Council under the Writers to Book Groups initiative for the Taupo Library Conversations with Books Group and the Friends of the Taupo Library. Please phone Patricia McKenzie 07 3768230 (Conversation with Books) for information.
