Two stunning gold medals from Duncan Grant and the lightweight double scull of Storm Uru and Peter Taylor brought New Zealand's gold tally at the World Championships in Poznan to a remarkable four.

Duncan Grant retained his title - his third lightweight single sculls world championship gold - in emphatic style leading from the front and leading a high class field all the way.

Grant turned around his semi form to take a first 500 metre lead ahead of Greek Vasileios Polymeros and Japan's Daisaku Takeda with Mads Rasmussen of Denmark in fourth. Grant kept the work rate right up and moved slightly further ahead of Polymeros at halfway. Rasmussen came into the picture in third in the second half of the race but with Grant two seconds to the good with 500 metres to go, it boiled down to a fight between Polymeros and the Kiwi - with Grant prevailing by a second and a half in six minutes and 50 seconds.

Peter Taylor and Storm Uru rowed a similarly aggressive race and finished off a great season with the world title. From the first stroke there was an urgency about the rowing and they moved away with the fast starting French double. The threat from Italy and the other top boats in this Olympic class never came and into the second half of the race Uru and Taylor put the hammer down and moved clear. Their time too - 6 minutes and 10 seconds - was one of the very fastest ever recorded.

In the B finals the women's quad won a two boat race for a final ranking of seventh and the impressive men's four - Under 23 world champions - finished third in their race for a solid final ranking of ninth.
