Mikey Rockwell is a hip hop artist representing hip hop music in its original format of beats and rhymes. Caught by the honesty and grit of early nineties hip hop (A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes), Mikey picked up the skill of rapping through constant freestyling in ciphers and battles alike. His small home studio ‘The Kitchen’ emerged alongside his rap talent where he has been attacking beat making ever since.

Many years, trials, successes and musical journeys later, Mikey Rockwell has emerged with a string of magnificent performances with some wildly talented musicians, DJs and hip hop groups. The journey has hit many high points featuring with Auckland’s Definite and Bling opening for Jurassic 5, Kolab and Hangman. He recently featured in The Sagittarian’s Karma Killer, which won Best Video at The Kodak Music Clip Awards.

So with momentum building, it was no surprise that in May 2007, Mikey landed the opportunity to utilize Greenlane Recording Studios in Auckland. With The Sagittarian on board as co producer, Rockwell now has the resources to produce what is expected to be a hip hop album of high caliber.

Mikey is releasing the forth coming album under his independent label Rockwell Records established in 2006. The label is currently putting all its might into building relationships with Easy Media.Tv, Greenlane Recording Studios and Boston Square Records. Through these funnels, the push is being made to create opportunities for the definitive artists on Rockwell Records.

Mikey’s new breed of hip hop has earned him a nomination for ‘Best Unsigned Artist at the 2007 Australia / New Zealand Urban Music Awards. So turn your dial up for Mikey Rockwell, he is sure to be representing to the fullest no matter the occasion, and spreading the good word.
