Treble Cone kicked off the two day Elite FIS Race today with amazing snow and weather conditions as well as a field full of the world’s best ski racers. The huge amounts of snow overnight made the course difficult to set up, but the Treble Cone Race Crew had the course looking phenomenal for the 9 AM start.

The competition was heated from the start as the Treble Cone Race Academy matched up against the top international teams. Top skiers Leif Kristian Haugen, Jon Olsson and Kristine Haugen have all been training with the Treble Cone Race Academy for the past few weeks and it has paid off with their top placements from today.

“Our TCRA Athletes stepped up to the high expectations that the team had to perform well on the home turf. Winning both the men’s and women’s events at the same venue is a major goal for TCRA, but we acknowledge our team members who placed 6 athletes in the top 15 men’s and 4 in the top 15 women’s. Also our young guns charged hard and improved their world ranking significantly,” said TCRA Director Guenther Birgmann.

Jon Olsson of Sweden clenched the top spot with the fastest combined time of 1:29.21. The competition was fierce though and coming in close second was Leif Kristian Haugen of Norway with a combined time of 1:29.37, and Niklas Rainer of Sweden followed up third with a time of 1:29.48.

The women had strong finishes with Kristine Haugen of Norway with a combined time of 1:32.07. The top Kiwi finisher Alexandra McGlinn took second with a combined time of 1:32.64. Emily Bamford of Australia took home third with a combined time of 1:34.28.

Top placing Kiwis were Angus Howden in seventh place with a time of 1:30.60 and Alexandra McGlinn taking second for the women.

The awards for both Slalom and Giant Slalom will take place tomorrow directly following the race. If the Slalom is on par with the race today then we should see the best ski racing in the world up at Treble Cone.
