More than 120 musicians from Royal New Zealand Air Force bands will combine on Sunday, August 19, for the annual Air Force Proms concert.

The event will be held at 2pm at the Michael Fowler Centre and will feature a wide range of music, from the swing of Glenn Miller to a spectacular grand finale involving all 120 plus RNZAF musicians.

This year’s event, which will celebrate 70 years of the RNZAF and the existence of its Central Band, will also include a group of secondary school musicians to give them the opportunity to play in a large concert with professional musicians.

Royal New Zealand Air Force Director of Music, Flight Lieutenant Owen Clarke, said the event would surprise many with its variety and degree of audience involvement.

“We will do what we can to involve the audience including inviting children on stage to conduct the band. I think most people will be pleasantly surprised by how upbeat and entertaining a military music event can be.”

The Air Force Proms will conclude with a short commemorative ceremony to remember those who have served their country.

Tickets can be booked at Ticketek and range in price from $15 for adults and $5 for children and students.
