PUKEKOHE

Get rid of those unwanted chemicals and make Franklin a safer place. Simply take advantage of Franklin District Council’s annual hazardous waste collection on Saturday 3 October.

The HazMobile will be parked at Franklin District Council, 82 Manukau Road, Pukekohe, 10am – 2pm.

Franklin District Council GM Works and Services Barry Bergin says, “As the main collection point for Franklin, the Pukekohe event always proves popular. We’ve already held two smaller hazardous waste collections in Tuakau and Waiuku this year, which were really successful.”

“Don’t forget that this is your last chance this year to dispose of all those household nasty chemicals for free.”

The HazMobile is a free service for householders who want to dispose of their unwanted hazardous materials safely and responsibly. Anything that is flammable, corrosive, toxic, reacts with other materials or can pollute the environment is a hazardous material – and a household hazardous waste if it is no longer needed or wanted.

The HazMobile will collect:
• Solvents and paint strippers
• Glues, wood preservatives, garden chemicals, pesticides, fertilisers
• Petrol, oil and other car cleaning products
• Mobile phones
• Toilet and drain cleaners, kitchen and oven cleaners
• Pool chemicals, bleach and disinfectants, car batteries, rechargable batteries
• Furniture and shoe polish, fluorescent tubes, gas cylinders
• Small quantities of agricultural chemicals will be accepted. For large quantities please contact Nigel Birse on 2371300.

The HazMobile will not collect:
• Non-hazardous waste such as tires, broken glass
• Medical Waste
• Ammunition
• Electronic waste such as computers, televisions
• Paint
• Empty containers
