Waitaki District Council began repairing the damaged Marine Parade seawall at Oamaru Harbour on October 1st

Council has contracted Rooneys Earthmoving to reclaim from the seabed a large quantity of stonework that had fallen loose onto the seabed over many years.

Harbourside Project Co-Ordinator Mr. Rex Stringer said that the intention is to replicate the original condition of the seawall and to stabilize the Marine Parade rockwall. He said that the work should be finished by the end of next week. The work will cost an estimated $10,000.

The work has been approved by Historic Places Trust, Department of Conservation and Otago Regional Council.

The seawall repair is the first stage of the Harbourside Walking & Cycling track that Council approved earlier this year as part of its Long term Community Plan 2009-19.
