Methven, the leading designer and marketer of proprietary shower and tapware, has appointed a new director with strong experience in international operations, manufacturing and commercialising innovations in New Zealand, Asia and Europe.

David Mair will join the Methven Group Board in October 2009. He is a professional investor, Chairman of Stainless Design Limited and a director of Skellerup Industries, A2 Corporation and High Modulus International. He is a former Executive Director of Interlock Group and Vice President of Asia Operations and an Operations Council Leader of ASSA ABLOY, the giant Swedish lock group. He has spent many years living and working in Japan gaining a rare and intimate knowledge of Japanese quality and process improvement systems.

“David brings a range of important skills and insights that will complement the strengths of the current Board. He has had hands on involvement in Just in Time manufacturing and world class supply chain practice that fits with our ambitions to internationalise the business and establish Methven as a global brand,” Chairman, Phil Lough said.

Methven’s strategy is to diversify revenue sources across a spread of geographic markets and products, develop core competencies in design, innovation and brand marketing and extract best costs and efficiencies along the supply and delivery chain through outsourcing partners.

Mr Lough said that Mr Mair not only had a background in key operational areas from manufacturing to inventory management but also in quality and process improvement and realising the full potential of innovations.

“I think like an investor,” Mr Mair said. “I have a passion and the practical experience to see where the opportunities are within a business to lift efficiencies, build performance and realise value for the benefit of shareholders and the competitive advantage of the company.”
