Taupo Mayor Rick Cooper welcomed eighteen new NZ citizens yesterday at an official Citizenship Ceremony in the Taupo District Council Chambers.
The new ‘Taupoeans’, most of whom have lived in the district for many years, came from all corners of the globe; Uzbekistan, Romania, Netherlands, Thailand, Britain, Philippines, America, and South Africa.
Mayor Rick Cooper was pleased to see the cultural diversity of our district growing, joking with the crowd "I am happy to hold the ceremony so long as you make me a promise when this is completed you do not move to Australia".
