Televisions Close-Up programme has revealed that Minister of Justice Hon Simon Power is planning to make an announcement tomorrow in regard to “victims of crime” .

This revelation came after the Minister had refused to go on the Close-Up show to talk about Victims of Crime.

Mr Power has had many communications from EUFA over this matter, as many EUFA members are victims of White Collar Crime and suffer extreme pain.

EUFA believe if Mr Power is to address all the issues, his announcement will cover those devastated by serious street crime, to those who have lost their life savings at the hands of White Collar Criminals.

Lobby Groups and individuals will be waiting in anticipation that the Minister is going to shake things up.

Victims of street crime get much more exposure and public sympathy then those of White Collar Crime, and given the serous violence criminal are inflicting in today’s society this is understandable. The points of difference of justice between victims and offenders rights are miles apart in favour of offenders.

Some opponents of reform and media have made accusations that victims of crime, who become protestors, are grandstanding, or political point scoring. This is an insult to their courage to expose the reality which is often done in the honour of someone who has died as a result of an offender.

The gut wrenching issue for victims of any crime is the rights of offenders versus victims’ rights, including bail and appeal conditions.

Suzanne Edmonds said from Tauranga tonight “The biggest injustice EUFA victims feel, for example is over BlueChip and Bridgecorp directors being given the right to enjoy, on bail, huge freedom and lives of luxury. The long wait for victims to see governments act is simply contemptible, however EUFA await Mr Powers’ announcement with huge anticipation and hope.”
