Tinman puts club pride on the line in December

Triathlon and Multisport Clubs around New Zealand are once again being challenged to compete against each other at the Craigs Investment Partners Tinman Triathlon at Mount Maunganui in early December.

 

Organisers and events owners Sport Bay of Plenty are repeating last year’s Inter-Club Challenge, won for the first time by local club Triathlon Tauranga. All entrants are invited to register not only their own details but those of their club when entering this iconic event.

 

Triathlon New Zealand Director of Sport Development Brendon Downey is delighted at news the Inter-Club Challenge Trophy will once again be on the line.

 

“Tri NZ would like to thank the organisers of the Tinman Triathlon for this great opportunity for Triathlon clubs to compete against each other. The team at Tri NZ is concerned primarily with participation at all levels of our sport and one way of encouraging that involvement is through our clubs. They provide a structure through which people can compete, watch, volunteer or become an official so any association with the clubs is a great one as far as we are concerned.

Tinman will be raced on December 6 this year at Pilot Bay, Mount Maunganui and is in its 21st year of competition. It is a traditional start to the season for so many competitors and leads in to other events such as the Port of Tauranga Half Ironman and Ironman New Zealand for many. For some though, it is a challenge unto itself and serves as an idyllic venue at which to race for the first time or the 100th time.

 

Up for grabs is club pride, the Inter-Club Challenge Trophy and over $3000 in prizes, including:

The scoring system rewards clubs of all sizes for turnout on a proportional basis, as well as rewarding individual athletes for their finishing position with points going to their club total.

 

Tinman organizers challenge all triathlon clubs in New Zealand to get behind the Inter-Club Challenge. Get your club involved, make a weekend of it. It’s a race within a race with club pride on the line!
