The inaugural Kumagaya Friendship Ambassador awards are to be presented to the reciprocates at the Friendship Association Annual Dinner to be held at the Bonsai Restaurant in Invercargill next Thursday November 15 at 6:30pm

The Awards are given to persons who have contributed an outstanding effort to the development of relationships between Invercargill City and its sister city Kumagaya in Japan.

Association President Tom Sawyer said that the association decided on an awards program because of the impressive involvement from the many people that contribute to the success of the relationship between the two cities.

This year’s awards are contested through nominations received from schools in Invercargill who are involved in visits and reciprocal hosting.

“This has again been a very active year between the schools of both cities and there are many students that need to be congratulated for the part they have played in the relationship.” Mr. Sawyer said “unfortunately were can’t recognise them all with an award but we are very impressed with the commitment that they all play, this is why we have established the awards program” he said

The 2009 reciprocates are:
Brendan Baucke, Southland Boys High School
Kathyrn Butler, James Hargest Collage.
Brooke Flett, Southland Girls High School.
