Paralympic Cycling Champion, Paula Tesoriero broke the 500m Time Trial World Record she set at the Beijing Paralympic Games last year, and claimed the gold medal at the Para-Cycling Track World Championships in Manchester today.

Tesoriero clocked a time of 43.142 seconds, ahead of Australia’s Jayme Paris and USA’s Barbara Buchan. Tesoriero set the world record in Beijing last year with a time of 43.281 seconds.

Tesoriero has had a great year on the international circuit, winning gold in both the 500m Time Trial and 3000m Individual Pursuit at the World Para-Cycling Cup also held in Manchester in May as well setting a new world record in the Flying 200m Start at the same event. Tesoriero then went on to win gold in the road race at the Para-Cycling World Championships in Italy as well as bronze in the individual road time trial.

Tesoriero was delighted with her results. “Winning two World Championship events this year is fantastic” she said. Looking ahead, Tesoriero commented “My plan is to keep getting faster every year towards 2012 and dominate every event I ride in London” she said.
