Michal Glowacki, formerly of Invercargill and Auckland but now resident in Norway is New Zealand's only representative in the World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships currently being held in the Czech Republic.

In the fierce competition which is run as a series of time trials over different lengths, Glowacki's best result so far is a 45th placing in the sprint race with only the long distance race remaining.

Mountain Bike Orienteering is an extreme sport where competitors have to navigate their way through torturous single track networks while riding at breakneck speeds. Navigation mistakes can be more costly than in foot orienteering because of the speed travelled.

The next major New Zealand event is in the mountain bike paradise of Naseby on the last weekend in October.
