NAPIER

The youth of Napier have officially spoken!More than 600 young people between the ages of 10 and 20 years old filled out surveys conducted bythe Napier City Council as part of a review of its Policy for Young People, exceeding the expectations ofNapier City Council Youth Coordinator, Rebekah Eastwood.

“We had a massive response to the survey,” Rebekah says. “With so many surveys to process, we are stillcollating the information. However, some comments that are reappearing are ‘It would be great to havea youth venue and place to hang out’ and ‘More jobs or training opportunities for young people areneeded’. We are hoping to have the report from the survey completed in the next few weeks.”

Rebekah believes that the successful response was thanks to two iPod Touches being up for grabs forthose that completed the survey.

Napier Mayor, Barbara Arnott, drew the winners who were Grant Porter,a Napier Boys High School student and Raechel Taurima, a Workforce Development Hospitality student –now the proud owners of an iPod Touch each!“

Even though the iPod was enticing, it was important for youth to have their say as their needs areconstantly changing and it is vital for services to be in place to provide the right kind of support.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who filled out the survey. With the help of your surveyresults, we will be making positive changes for you as a young person in the Napier community!”
