The Kaipara District Council has committed to taking more direct control over its economic growth through the appointment of Chris Donahoe as District Growth Facilitator.

“By supporting the development and growth of sustainable businesses we will see more jobs, more residents and more visitors in the area” says Mayor Neil Tiller, “Economic development initiatives will be built on our inherent strengths.  We are keen to preserve the rural lifestyle of the District while increasing prosperity for our people.”

Chris Donahoe has a varied business background which includes establishing a listed property trust.  Chris has lived in the Kaipara for the last seven years and is interested in economics and environmental issues.  “The plan is to help businesses to grow which will create jobs and down stream activity for service businesses.  We also believe that an improved economic footing in the Kaipara puts us in a better position to protect and enhance our natural environment” says Chris.

Council aims to assist businesses to locate appropriate land and infrastructure and to manage selected projects through Council procedures.  “In this way we hope to attract new investment in the District with particular focus on adding value to our primary sectors and removing barriers to growth for existing businesses.”

“We want to help businesses achieve full production in the shortest possible time, with cost savings and lifestyle benefits.  We will case manage projects that are likely to bring the greatest benefits to our community.”  Council hopes that a more hands on approach will provide a more effective use of resources.
