Jack earns second record in Singapore World Cup

New Zealand swimmer Michael Jack grabbed his second national record in as many days at the FINA World Cup in Singapore last night.

Jack produced an outstanding 1:43.77 effort in the 200m freestyle, which sliced nearly a full second off the New Zealand record held by world championship teammate Andrew McMillan, who had in turn beaten the mark Jack set in Sydney nearly a year ago.

The effort is still not enough to earn a medal at the World Cup, finishing a close fourth as he had in the 100m freestyle final yesterday when he also set a new national record.

Jack closed to a share of third place at the 150m mark but was shaded by Great Britain’s Ross Davenport by 4/10ths of a second for the bronze.

New Zealand head coach Jan Cameron said Jack’s performances will bring him into contention for selection for the men’s relay team.

Jack now heads to Australia for the Canberra International Meet which is a long course event.
