Aucklanders Choose a 'Sparkly' Sky Tower This Festive Season

The results of SKYCITY’s ‘Light me up! Auckland’s Choice to Light Sky Tower this Festive Season’ are in with Aucklanders overwhelming choosing for a festive Sky Tower lit with a green base with silver, red and green flashes. The colour combinations on offer were:

· Green base with a red top
· Blue base with a silver top
· Red base with moving silver and blue rings
· Green base with silver, red and green flashes

Visitors to SKYCITY have, during the last two weeks of November, voted on their favourite combination with the winning combination looking very much like a traditionally decorated Christmas tree with Christmas lights. The winner, drawn from the winning combination colour votes, will officially ‘hit the switch’ on 1 December in a celebratory lighting ceremony on the Sky Tower’s Sky Deck.

This festive season is the first Aucklanders have had the chance to make their choice for the Sky Tower lighting from 1-31 December and the first time that it will show ‘special effects’ that have only been possible since the installation of new technology earlier this year. Sophisticated LED lighting will be responsible for the ‘flashing’ on the top half of the Sky Tower which will look like twinkly Christmas lights atop the green base.
