Healthy home ventilation specialist HRV has been busy planting 120 native plants at retreat centre Bella Rakha in the Waitakere Ranges, including two ten year old Kauri.

The company, based in West Auckland, selected the Kauri as the local Kauri population is under threat from the disease Phytophthora taxon Agathis (PTA).  The disease produces a resin in Kauri which eventually kills the tree.

“We are a company that places great emphasis on environmental initiatives and producing envrionmentally friendly products.  Having read about the threat against Kauri in the Waitakeres it was important for us to do something for our local area,” said Mike Perrett, HRV National Sales Director.

Other native plants have been planted along the Oratia Stream which runs through the property as part of Waitakere City Council’s Project Twin Streams.  The project will see 56 kilometres of stream banks in the Waitakere Ranges replanted in an effort to improve stormwater and reconnect communities through cycle and walkways.

It is the second time the HRV team have visited Bella Rakha in recent weeks.  To celebrate their sponsorship of the domestic Cricket Twenty20 competition they hosted the Black Caps in a game of frisbee golf at the centre last month.
