QUEENSTOWN

The beautiful Grotto trees are sparkling, a TV star is coming to town and Santa is taking his place on stage as Queenstown Events Centre’s festive family Christmas gets into full swing. Families and individuals from all over Central Otago are invited to visit, make Christmas wishes, vote for their favourite Grotto tree and sing along to carols.

The Shotover Jet Christmas Tree Grotto is a wonderful scene with the Event Centre’s foyer now adorned with beautiful trees. Each is sponsored and decorated by a local organisation and the public are invited to vote for their favourite for the cost of a donation towards Wakatipu High School’s Year 10 Branches Camp.

Children can also make their very own wish upon a special star that will decorate the hoamz Wishing Tree. Two lucky winners will be picked to have their wish granted live on stage at both the matinee and evening performances of the Shotover Jet Remarkable Christmas Spectacular on 13 December.

There will be plenty of surprises in store with Erin Simpson, star of TV2’s ‘The Erin Simpson Show’, making a special guest appearance together with Santa at the fun-packed family spectacular. Joining the pair on stage are talented local favourites Simon Green, Emma Pullar, Emily Burns and returning by popular demand are the now infamous Remarkables Men's Ballet Company.

Proceeds from the concerts will also support Wakatipu High School’s Year 10 Branches Camp. The two-week camp at Branches Station has been running for more than 40 years and has become a rite of passage for the school’s Year 10 students. However increasing pressure on the school’s budget has meant the camp is in danger of being shelved.

Attendees from Sunday’s concert can place bids in a silent auction that will also raise money for the project. The 22 items up for auction include some impressive sporting memorabilia gathered from high profile visitors to the Events Centre during the year:

A signed Wellington Phoenix jersey featuring now infamous All Whites Mark Paston, Leo Bertos, coach Ricki Herbert and more
A signed Highlanders’ rugby ball and family tickets to the Super 14 clash with Western Force at the Events Centre on 10 April
Signed postcards from England Rugby Coach Martin Johnson
