“Live music kicks off the celebrations from 8.30pm in both Queenstown and Wanaka,” QLDC arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said.

Queenstown revellers can enjoy a great line-up of bands at the Earnslaw Park stage, including Dunedin group, the Oxo Cubans and local group, the Medicine Men.
Always a hit with the younger party-goers, Queenstown will also feature a DJ stage by the Memorial Gates.

“DJ Asbro and DJ Hand Solo will spin the discs and get the party going on the Queenstown Lakefront,” Mrs Maxwell said.

Those seeing in the New Year in Wanaka could party the night away to Christchurch covers band Retrosonic and Queenstown group The Cartel, at the stage in the Log Cabin car park.

Dazzling midnight fireworks displays were planned for both towns.

“The fireworks are always a real thrill and highlight of the evening,” she said.
Mrs Maxwell said the celebrations were ideal for the whole family. “Join family and friends for a great show and bring in 2010 with a bang! The best part is, it’s all free,” she said.

New Years Eve kicks off the Summerdaze festival, running from December 31, 2009 -January 31, 2010.
“Start planning your summer of fun now! The programme has now been distributed to all letterboxes across the district or you can check out the Summerdaze website www.summerdaze.co.nz,” Mrs Maxwell said.

Important information about transportation, road closures and liquor bans can also be found on the Summerdaze website.
