On New Year’s Day in 1976 Dora Beman moved to a council flat in Hovding Court.

The rental was $5.50 per week.

Now, thought to hold the record as Tararua Council’s longest term tenant at 33 years in the same flat Miss Beman has relocated to Rahiri Home.

Born in South Lanchester, England, she moved to New Zealand and spent many years working in the South Island before coming north to Dannevirke.

Miss Beman has been a familiar face in the town working at Woolworths for many years and later at Hallensteins. She is a long serving and faithful member of the Catholic Church.

Council property assets manager Maree Taylor says “Dora’s bubbly and fun personality is now Rahiri’s gain.”

“After being a long and loyal tenant it is now time for Dora to have some pampering in her new home.”
