In a world-first, new social networking website for grown-ups iYomu.com has announced that it will ask its online community to choose one member to receive US$1 million in the iYomu.com Challenge. After completing a series of puzzles and tasks to earn points, three finalists from anywhere in the world will explain why they should receive US$1 million and how it will change their lives. The ultimate decision will be made by an online vote of the iYomu community.

“This is the first time a public online social network has been entrusted with making such a significant decision,” says iYomu founder David Wolf-Rooney.

“The Challenge heralds the next stage in the evolution of social networking. We are entrusting the iYomu.com community with the power to elect one of their own as the winner of US$1 million. At the end of the Challenge, one iYomu member’s life will be changed by the US$1 million prize, but we expect the whole community to have been touched in a positive way.”

iYomu says the winner can spend the money on anything they want. “The winner could use the money for an aid project, to start their dream business or even just a holiday. It will be up to the online community to decide the winner,” says David Wolf-Rooney.

The iYomu.com Challenge begins on Monday 13 August 2007 and points can be accumulated until midnight on 31 December 2007. Users will gain points for completing a range of online activities, including referring friends, completing their user profiles in full and correctly solving 12 cryptic puzzles featuring locations from around the world. People must be over 18 to join iYomu.com and participate in the Challenge.

The top 10 points earners will be interviewed by iYomu and three grand finalists selected. The online community will vote for the iYomu.com Challenge winner in February 2008. The winner will receive US$1 million in 12 monthly instalments.

“The winner not only receives the funding to make it happen, but also the support and goodwill of a large online community. Depending on what they propose to do if they win, the community support may be of greater value than the money,” says David Wolf-Rooney.

The iYomu.com Challenge is being held to launch the iYomu.com social networking website for grown-ups. The name of the site, iYomu, stands for I, You, Me and Us.

iYomu’s research found that there were few social networking sites specifically targeting adults who wanted a way to find and stay in touch with a more mature audience online.

“Many people were put off by existing social networks that started as places for teenagers or students. However, there are lots of benefits for grown-ups in social networking, such as staying in touch with family and friends around the world, storing and sharing important documents and photos, or finding advice,” says iYomu Director Frances Valintine.

Already online communities have been created on iYomu.com about the lives of working mums, property investment, golf courses and book clubs, rather than the socialising or entertainment categories found in social networks for younger audiences.

The iYomu service is free, and features one gigabyte of storage for photos and documents, easy to use search tools, a personal homepage, email account, personality test and many other easy to use tools aimed at older internet users. People can also purchase additional storage space for their iYomu vault.

iYomu.com is backed by private investors from seven countries around the world who will underwrite the US$1 million prize. For terms and conditions of the iYomu.com Challenge see www.iyomu.com/challenge.
