The Taupo Community Ambassadors will be out and about these holidays making Taupo a friendlier and safer place to be.

The volunteers, wearing blue high visibility uniforms, will be patrolling the CBD and surrounding parks of Taupo town offering information and assistance to locals and visitors.

Safer Communities Project Manager Doug Scott says that the mere presence of these Ambassadors in the Central Business District has a positive impact on crime, safety and injury, as well as providing a friendly service to tourists, and visitors.

The Taupo Community Ambassadors pilot programme is based on similar initiatives in other towns throughout New Zealand, and will run until the end of January when it will then be evaluated for possible continuation.

More volunteers are required. If you have good local knowledge, are civic-minded, non-confrontational, have a common sense attitude and are interested in becoming a community ambassador, you can contact Programme Coordinator Neil Peterson on 376 0804 or email npeterson@taupo.govt.nz .
